About Chris Zappa

EST. 1974

I’m a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for hire.
I’m not an agency, a firm, or even a studio. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s the idea of sounding pretentious. I’m a guy who knows art and design. 25+ years in the industry and millions of customers served would say so. I also understand hyperbole.
My creative journey has been an evolution. Starting off as a musician, I eventually turned to photography because, as it turns out, I like to eat and pay my bills. That artistic pursuit led me to more than two decades in web design and, finally, to graphic design and illustration.
Aside from my family and doing great work, music is my life. I run Zappagram, the mother of all music newsletters, where each week I cover the latest in music news, reviews, interviews, releases, discovery, history, and more. Music lovers dig it.
I’m zealous about helping clients. I love brand strategy, designing logos, creating art including artwork for album covers, and promotional posters for artists, bands, and events. Most of all, I enjoy creating art where my love for music and the people who make it collide.
I believe that music and art can better our lives in many ways and affect real social change by challenging perceptions, inspiring others, and bringing to light issues that otherwise go unacknowledged.
Great design is a powerful tool for communication and expression, capable of uniting people across cultural and ideological divides. Besides, who doesn’t love things that look cool?
I came here to chew bubblegum and do kickass work, and I’m all out of bubblegum.
I’d love to hear from you—let’s talk shop!
